A Treasure Map of Rotarians at the RI Calgary Convention

Anthony Bloome
Vice-Chair
Rotary Club of Washington Global, USA

BELRAG Board Members: Tony Bloom, Carolyn Johnson, Carol Marcotte, Nancy Leonhardt, and Joan Littleford

Imagine a treasure map where 'X' marks the spot for incredible Rotarians driving impactful education projects worldwide! That’s how I describe my experience at the recent Rotary International Convention in Calgary. With over 15,000 attendees, the convention served as a powerful reminder of the privilege of being a Rotarian, offering a unique opportunity to connect with fellow members passionate about basic education and literacy.

The BELRAG Symposium and the BELRAG booth in the House of Friendship were vibrant hubs of collaboration, where I heard inspiring stories of STEM initiatives, digital literacy projects, and efforts to advance local education. The convention proved to be an unforgettable experience, fostering connections and sparking new ideas. I'm already looking forward to BELRAG's presence at the RI Convention in Taiwan in June 2026, where we're considering an interactive education and STEM pavilion. Read more »

mEducation Alliance's 2025 Math Power Prize Challenge

Get ready to spark joy and understanding in mathematics! The Math Power! Prize Challenge Call is focusing on Manipulatives for its inaugural 2025 prize. This initiative seeks to recognize and support innovative, scalable projects that make abstract mathematical concepts tangible for learners through powerful, accurate physical models and manipulatives.

The challenge is particularly interested in no-cost or low-cost initiatives that have been successfully implemented in low- and middle-income countries, helping students "see" and reason concretely with mathematical ideas. Organizations transforming math education with creative and effective manipulatives are encouraged to apply.

The application deadline is Thursday, July 31, 2025, with awards of up to US$10,000 to be announced by the end of August 2025. This prize aims to highlight the incredible work being done to promote the joy of math globally. Read more »
